OFFENSE:  Vehicle found in Big Blue River

CASE:  2008-3655

DETAILS:

On Sunday August 3rd 2008 at approximately 0950 hours, the Gage County Sheriff’s Office, Blue Springs Fire Department, Wymore Rescue and Extrication, Beatrice Rescue, and a Nebraska State Trooper responded to a report of a vehicle upside down in the Big Blue River.  Two local fishermen noticed the vehicle and reported it to authorities.

A 1997 Chevy Monte Carlo registered to Tim & Dawn Stewart of Nebraska City, Nebraska was upside down in the Big Blue River located near S. 43rd & Oak in Gage County.  The vehicle was reported stolen from Nebraska City on Tuesday August 1st 2008.

Emergency personnel at the scene checked the vehicle while it was in the water.  Nobody was located inside the vehicle.  The vehicle was pulled from the water by Huls Towing service of Beatrice.

Members of Blue Springs Fire Department and Wymore Rescue also checked the banks of the river from the spot where the vehicle entered the water to the Blue Springs dam.  No one was found during the search.

Gage County authorities believe the vehicle was dumped in the river in an effort to hide the vehicle and destroy any evidence which might be located inside the vehicle and that nobody was inside the vehicle.

Anyone with information in reference to this stolen vehicle is encouraged to contact the Gage County Sheriff’s Office at 402-223-5232 or Crime Stoppers at 402-228-4343
