Rabid Animals Found

On March 3rd, 2010 a deputy with the Gage County Sheriffs Office located a sick raccoon in the middle of the roadway alive near the intersection of South 17th and Hoyt Road.  The raccoon behaved strangely, was chewing on itself and was losing gross amounts of hair.  The animal was put down and Nebraska Game and Parks was contacted.  The raccoon was later tested positive for mange, distemper, and rabies. 

On March 5th, 2010, another deputy located another raccoon near the Rockford corner and Highway 136 in the same condition.
    
The Sheriff’s Office urges persons to call if they see any animals with unusual behavior and not to approach them.
