Truck/Train Accident 1/4 Mile South of S 120th Road & Ash Road

At 1325 hours on September 8, 2009, the Gage County Sheriff’s Office responded to a single vehicle accident involving a train ¼ Mile south of the intersection of South 120th and Ash Road. The accident involved a 1993 Ford work truck owned by Darling National LLC. The driver of the pickup, Wayne E. Bockman, 63 of Grand Island, was traveling south on 120th Road just south of Ash Road.  According to the driver and witnesses, the driver approached the railroad crossing and stopped at the stop sign.  The driver then failed to see the Burlington Northern Santa Fe train approaching from the West and continued to cross the railroad crossing.  The train collided with the truck causing severe damage to the truck. The driver of the truck was not injured from the accident and seatbelts were being utilized. The driver was cited for failing to yield.  Alcohol was not a factor in the accident.
