On November 8, 2009, Kevin Smith, 43 of Beatrice, was driving his 1995 Saturn eastbound on Highway 4 just east of Bottle Creek Bridge. Tessie Smith, 43 of Beatrice, was accompanying Kevin and was seated in the front passenger seat of the vehicle. Shortly after the Smith vehicle crossed the bridge, a deer entered the roadway from the south ditch and struck the Smith vehicle on the passenger side front quarter panel and windshield. The deer partially entered the passenger compartment of the vehicle on the passenger side of the vehicle before falling out/off of the vehicle. Tessie Smith was transported to Beatrice Community Hospital by Beatrice Fire & Rescue for injuries not considered life threatening.
Agencies responding to the accident were Gage County Sheriff's Office, Beatrice Rural Fire, and Beatrice Fire & Rescue.
