OFFENSE: Stranded Motorist

CASE: 2009-5891

On December 8, 2009, Gage County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a 911 call in reference to a stranded motorist who had gone into the ditch caused by the hazardous weather.  According to the caller, Jack Bursovsky, he had received a call from his son who informed him he went into the ditch somewhere south of Highway 4 on South 134th Road.  The father informed dispatch that his son was unsure of his exact location.  Beatrice Communications received a 911 call from the driver of the vehicle, Shawn Bursovsky, at 1758 hours but because of poor cell phone coverage, they were unable to communicate with the driver.  At around 1830 hours, three Gage County deputies began searching the area where the driver said he thought he was but they were unable to locate the vehicle or driver.  Beatrice Communications contacted the driver’s cell phone provider and they were able to determine that the driver was in the general vicinity that the deputies were searching.  Gage County deputies searched the area for around three hours but because their vehicles were not able to travel on the county road any further, they were forced to call off the search.  It was determined later that a fellow motorist had found the stranded driver between B-Line and Olive Road on South 134th Road.  Shawn Bursovsky was driven to a nearby friend’s house.  He was later contacted by the Gage County Sheriff’s Office and it was determined that he did not have heat in the vehicle while being stranded in his vehicle.  He did not sustain any injuries from being subjected to the inclement weather and this case is still under investigation.
