OFFENSE: Pipe Bomb

CASE: 2010-2621

On June 7, 2010, the Gage County Sheriff’s Office responded to 45330 US Highway 77 in reference to an explosive device found in a mailbox at the residence.  Gage County deputies arrived at the scene and spoke with the reporting party, Raeshelle Rickers. Mrs. Rickers informed deputies that sometime between 0130 and 0145 hours, her son heard a loud explosion outside their residence and observed a small grass fire by the mailbox across the highway from their residence. Mrs. Rickers said that they later found their mailbox to be damaged and observed an explosive device in the mailbox that appeared to have been detonated.

Deputies searched both mailboxes at the residence and found a 12 inch rubber tube that had been modified into an explosive device.  After investigating the device, it was determined that the device had been detonated and was no longer a threat.  The United States Postal Service was notified of the incident and advised to use caution and to notify the Gage County Sheriff’s Office of anything unusual on their routes.
