At approximately 0512 hrs on January 22nd, 2010, the Gage County Sheriff’s Office, along with Wymore Fire and Rescue, and Beatrice Rescue, responded to a two vehicle injury accident approximately 1/8 mile north of Highway 8 on Highway 77. Roger Gilbertson, age 35 of Summerfield, KS, turned north onto Highway 77 from Highway 8 and began fishtailing on the ice. Before he could gain control, the rear of Gilbertson’s copper Mercury Grand Marquis, crossed the centerline. The rear of Gilbertson’s vehicle struck the front left corner of a white Ford Taurus, driven by Carrol Morehead, age 63 of Blue Springs. The force of the impact sheared off the left rear tire of Gilbertson’s vehicle and caused the airbags in both vehicles to deploy.
Gilbertson was transported to Beatrice Community Hospital by Wymore Fire and Rescue for non-life threatening injuries. Morehead was transported to Beatrice Community Hospital by Beatrice Rescue, also for non-life threatening injuries.
