On February 5, 2010 at approximately 0715 hours, the Gage County Sheriff’s Office, Nebraska State Patrol, Beatrice Fire and Rescue, Beatrice Rural Fire, and Filley Fire and Rescue responded to a two vehicle injury accident on Highway 136 approximately 750 feet east of Hoyt Road.
The vehicles involved in the accident were a tan 2002 Ford Windstar Van and a red 2000 Ford Taurus.  Both vehicles only had one occupant in each. The Windstar Van, driven by 75 year old Eldon D. Oltman of Filley, was traveling east on Highway 136 just east of Hoyt Road.  Oltman lost control of his vehicle due to the hazardous road conditions and slid sideways into the westbound lane of traffic.  The driver of the Ford Taurus, 44 year old Regina M. Mitchell of Hebron, was traveling westbound on Highway 136 and collided with the driver’s side of the Windstar Van which was in her lane of travel.
Mitchell was transported to BryanLGH West with non-life threatening injuries.  Oltman was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.  Seatbelts were being utilized by the driver of Ford Taurus but the driver of the Windstar Van was not utilizing his seatbelt. Alcohol is not suspected as a factor of the accident. The accident is still under investigation by the Nebraska State Patrol.
