Drug Overdose

On May 12, 2010, the Gage County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a possible drug overdose at Beatrice Community Hospital.  Lance Newby, 20 years old of rural Odell, was brought to Beatrice Community Hospital at approximately 2330 hrs by a family member.  The family member advised that they had picked Newby up on a county road in Jefferson County.  Newby had contacted them after he claimed that his vehicle had broken down and that he believed law enforcement was chasing him.  When the family member picked Newby up, he admitted to ingesting a significant amount of methamphetamine.  Newby was pronounced dead at approximately 0230 hrs on May 13, 2010.
