DATE & TIME: August 21, 2011 approximately 1930 hrs      

LOCATION: Barneston Area  

OFFENSE: Terroristic Threats       

CASE #: 2011-4634              

On August 21, 2011 at approximately 1930 hours, Gage County Sheriff’s Office was advised that two individuals were causing problems in the Grand Ave Bar in Barneston.  Comments being made by these individuals were threatening in nature toward patrons of the establishment and toward law enforcement as well.  The bar staff requested that the individuals leave the establishment. 

Several units of the Gage County Sheriff’s Office responded as well as the Nebraska State Patrol to the Barneston area.  Prior to law enforcement arrival, the individuals were observed traveling northbound out of Barneston, stopped for a short period of time approximately ½ mile north of town, and then turned around, traveled southbound through Barneston at a high rate of speed, and violated the stop sign at Highway 8 and South 108th Road. 

Marshall County, Kansas authorities were notified of the situation and observed the vehicle shortly thereafter and a pursuit ensued.  The pursuit ended in Oketo, Kansas with the result of the suspect vehicle colliding with two parked vehicles and then a residence.  One suspect had fled the scene on foot.  The passenger was taken into custody and lodged at the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office pending charges. 

Marshall County Sheriff’s Office requested assistance in conducting a search for the suspect at large.   Gage County Sheriff’s Office Deputies, Gage County Sheriff’s Office Reserves, Gage County Emergency Management personnel, and the Beatrice Police Department K-9 Unit responded to the scene and assisted in the search for the suspect.

The suspect at large is Kyle D. Joekel, 28 of Beatrice.  Joekel is wanted for questioning in pending cases in Nebraska and Kansas.  The suspect arrested was David Schwartz, 43, of Beatrice.  Schwartz is pending charges in Marshall County, Kansas and Nebraska. 

Any information concerning the whereabouts of this individual please contact Gage County Crime Stoppers at 402-228-4343.   This individual is considered a person of concern and is not to be approached.  Kansas holds a felony warrant for him.  He is a white male, 5’10”, 135 lbs with blue eyes and short blond/reddish hair, last seen wearing a white t-shirt and blue jeans.

OFFENSE: Wanted Fugitive

The Gage County Sheriff’s Office is requesting information on the whereabouts of Kyle D. Joekel of Beatrice, NE. 

Joekel is wanted in Kansas for felony flight to avoid arrest charges stemming from a disturbance in Barneston where he and another person had left the scene after making terroristic threats toward law enforcement and other individuals.  Marshall County Kansas Sheriff’s Office deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle Joekel was driving.  Joekel fled from authorities and the pursuit ended when he struck parked vehicles, pushing one vehicle into a residence. Joekel fled the scene on foot and has currently not been located.

Many leads have been followed but have been unsuccessful.  The Gage County Sheriff’s Office assisted the Beatrice Police Department on a possible lead that led to the search of a Beatrice residence but Joekel was not located.

The investigation is still ongoing by the Gage County Sheriff’s Office with the assistance of Federal authorities.
