Injury Accident at Highway 77 & 4th Street, Cortland

On 12/23/2011 at 1811 hours, the Gage County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to a two-vehicle injury accident in Cortland at Highway 77 and W 4th Street.  Gene Sherman, 86 yoa of Cortland, was traveling eastbound from the stop sign on W 4th Street in a 1986 Pontiac 6000.  Tyler Brooks, 26 yoa of Lincoln, was southbound on Highway 77, operating a 2002 Ford F150 pickup.  Sherman pulled onto Highway 77 from the stop sign in front of Brooks.  Brooks was unable to stop and hit Sherman’s vehicle broadside in the driver’s door.  A citation for failure to yield right of way will be issued to Sherman.

Sherman was transported to BryanLGH West with non-life threatening injuries.  Brooks had no injuries.  No air bags were deployed. 
   
Alcohol is not believed to be a factor and seatbelt use is unknown.  

Agencies responding to the accident included the Gage County Sheriff’s Office, Cortland Fire and Rescue, Hallam Fire and Rescue, and Clatonia Rescue.
