Injury Accident Results in Arrest for DUI 5th, Driving Under Revocation

On Thursday, March 01, 2012 at approximately 1632 hours, the Gage County Sheriff’s Office, Clatonia Fire and Rescue, and Cortland Fire and Rescue responded to a two vehicle injury accident which occurred at the intersection of West Highway 77 and West Highway 41. 

A Dodge Dakota Pickup, driven by 46 year old Michael Powell of Michigan, was traveling southbound on Highway 77 when he met a 2000 Chevrolet Lumina turning north onto Highway 77 from West Highway 41 driven by 49 year old Richard Jacobs of Lincoln.  Mr. Jacobs failed to yield to Mr. Powell.  Mr. Powell was unable to stop his vehicle and collided with the Chevrolet Lumina.

The driver of the pickup was transported to BryanLGH West in Lincoln by Clatonia Fire and Rescue.  His injuries are believed to be non-life threatening.

The driver of the Chevrolet Lumina, Richard Jacobs, was arrested for Driving Under Revocations and Driving Under the Influence 5th Offense.  Jacobs also has a total of six Driving Under the Influence convictions dating from 1990 to 2006.

Air bags were deployed in both vehicles and seatbelts were being utilized during the accident.  Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the accident.
