Fatality Accident ½ Mile East of SW 100th Rd on W Chestnut Rd

On June 30, 2012 at approximately 0159 hours, the Gage County Sheriff’s Office and DeWitt Fire and Rescue responded to a single vehicle injury accident which occurred on West Chestnut Road approximately a ½ mile east of Southwest 100th Road.
A white 2001 GMC Sierra was driving eastbound on East Chestnut Road when the driver lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle collided with a bridge structure on the north side of the road. The collision caused the vehicle to roll onto the driver’s side and come to a rest in the middle of the road.
The driver of the motor vehicle, 59 year old Bruce A. Benash of Beatrice, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. The next of kin for Benash has been notified and an autopsy has been requested by the Gage County Attorney.
Air bags did deploy in the vehicle and seatbelts were not being utilized by the driver. Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the accident and the accident is still under investigation by the Gage County Sheriff’s Office.
