Two Vehicle Injury Accident - Failure to Yield Right of Way

On 09-12-2012, at approximately 1945 hours, the Gage County Sheriff’s Office, Cortland Fire and QRT, Clatonia Rescue, and Beatrice Rescue responded to a two vehicle injury accident at Highway 77 and Apple Road. A tan Chevy Suburban driven by 15 year old Ethan Amen of Cortland, Nebraska was traveling west on Apple Road. After stopping at the stop sign, the suburban continued across Highway 77 failing to yield to a green Chrysler 300 driven by 50 year old Clayton Wells of Beatrice, Nebraska.  Wells was traveling south on Highway 77 at the time of the accident. The two vehicles collided causing them to spin and leave the roadway. The suburban struck a building prior to coming to rest on the southwest side of the intersection causing minimal damage to the building.

Clayton Wells, age 50, was the driver of the Chrysler with his wife Deborah Wells, age 55. Both Clayton and Deborah Wells were transported to Bryan LGH by Clatonia and Beatrice Rescue units. The juvenile driver of the suburban was transported to Bryan LGH by his parents.

Seat belts were being utilized and alcohol was not a factor.
