LOCATION: Gage County

OFFENSE: Click It or Ticket Grant

The Gage County Sheriff’s Office was selected to participate in the Click It or Ticket grant provided by the Nebraska Office of Highway Safety. This grant allowed the Sheriff’s Office to utilize extra full time, part time and reserve deputies. All the mileage and over time was reimbursed from the grant. Deputies were on saturated patrol throughout the county and the grant ran from May 21, 2012 thru June 3, 2012.

As part of the participation, the Sheriff’s Office was required to conduct a Post-Wave Click It or Ticket seat belt survey. This survey was conducted on June 15, 2012 at the Highway 136 and South 1st Road. 100 vehicles and 141 people were observed during the survey. 71% of the subjects were observed wearing their seat belts and 29% of the subjects were observed not wearing a seat belt. A Pre-Wave Click It or Ticket seat belt survey was conducted at the beginning of the grant and the results of that survey showed 64% of the subjects observed were wearing seat belts and 36% of the subjects were not wearing their seat belt.

The goal of the Click It or Ticket mini-grant was to raise the awareness of drivers throughout Gage County to utilize the seat belt for safety of the motoring public. The deputies conducted 24 hours of extra road patrol and logged 365 extra miles during the grant.
